Please join the East Bay Regional Park District for an evening reception in one of the Park District’s most iconic heritage parks, Tilden Regional Park at the Environmental Education Center, to celebrate our connection with the legacy of nationally renowned landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted Sr., his son Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., and the Olmsted Brothers firm.

We are participating in this year’s national Olmsted 200 movement in recognition of Olmsted Sr.’s 200th birthday and the Olmsteds’ profound influence on parks and open space landscapes across the country. These places provide accessible, scenic and healthy outdoor opportunities for all communities, and include the National Parks system and California State Parks. Locally, Olmsted Sr.’s more notable public designs include Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, and a preliminary design plan for what became the University of California, Berkeley. The Park District has its own special Olmsted story that passed from father to son and inspired a group of visionaries who 88 years ago successfully gathered their efforts together for one common goal – to develop a Regional Parkland in the East Bay hills.

Guests will hear special presentations, view unique exhibits, enjoy music, and mingle with descendants of these visionaries, including members of the Olmsted family, and, of course, join with us in wishing Mr. Olmsted Sr. a very Happy Birthday!
