Proclamation for Fred Olmsted on his 201st birthday by the mayor and local officials at the historic Raymond Library. East Hartford is the hometown of Fred’s father and grandfather, and Fred attended school in East Hartford from Dec 1, 1836 to June 1837 with Principal Edgar Perkins at the Academy on the site of the Wells Tavern on Main Street. East Hartford has been home to the Olmsted family for 238 years. Over 198 Olmsted family members are interred at nearby Center Cemetery on Main Street, East Hartford. Members of the Historical Society of East Hartford will be on hand as well as library docents with displays of Olmsted books, local maps and related Olmsted history.
