This workshop for children will feature the following:
Naturalist Ray Matarazzo will provide a tour of Olmsted-Beil House Park and the Great Trees there and discuss when Olmsted planted them, why he chose them, and which were his favorites. Ray will also share many details about all the trees that grow in the park, including how animals use them, which ones are edible, and which ones are medicinal.
Painter Sarah Yuster will give a lesson on landscape drawing, explaining with a demonstration how to understand what you see, learning how to place objects in perspective, and how to use color to convey the feeling of distance and space. Sarah will also cover some basics on color that artists have been using for hundreds of years to add to the feeling of distance and space. Attendees can then experiment using these new techniques with pencil oil pastels and colored pencils.
* Registration is limited to 20.
