In honor of Olmsted 200, Julia Bachrach, author of The City in a Garden: A History of Chicago’s Parks, will lead this walking tour of Washington Park. She will highlight the ways in which Frederick Law Olmsted expressed democratic principles in his design for the landscape, and how the greenspace became an important oasis for African American newcomers during the Great Migration. This free event is sponsored by the Hyde Park Historical Society and Terra Foundation for American Art.
