2025 marked a major milestone for one of Manhattan’s most cherished green spaces as Fort Tryon Park turned 90.
From its horticulture and historic structures to its cultural programs, Fort Tryon Park reflects the vision of Frederick Law Olmsted’s public landscapes: spaces that inspire, welcome, and sustain communities. It serves as a place of recreation, reflection, and connection for generations of visitors just as its founder John D. Rockefeller, Jr. envisioned when he dedicated it in 1935.
This celebratory video showcases its history, beauty, and enduring impact on the community. For nearly three decades, the organization formerly known as the Fort Tryon Park Trust has partnered with NYC Parks, volunteers, and supporters to restore, maintain, and enliven this extraordinary public treasure.
As part of the 90th year celebration, the organization has officially adopted a new name — Fort Tryon Park Conservancy — to recommit to future stewardship, fundraising, communitiy engagement, public programs, and preservation of the park for many more generations to come.
The Conservancy will unveil a fresh logo and website this spring to offer new ways to explore the park’s history, connect with programs, and get involved. Here’s to the next 90 years of Fort Tryon Park: a place that nurtures nature, community, and connection in the heart of New York City.
