About Bridgeport City Plan
Frederick Law Olmsted and The Olmsted Brothers completed 13 jobs in Bridgeport, CT from 1883 until the early 1900’s . Most notable are Beardsley Park (00691) and Seaside Park (12021). A City plan was conducted in 1914 and the final report commented on issues related to transportation and infrastructure. Discussing the addition of a future bridge, the firm explained “the many indications of rapid growth in Bridgeport, the steady increase of modern traffic in proportion to population, and the character of the plan of the city, make it wise to locate the new bridge and its approaches in such a way as to permit of the construction later on, if necessary in an economical and satisfactory manner, of a second bridge south of the railroad bridge.” [Olmsted Brothers to A.M.
