About Cleveland Art Museum
Located in Wade Park, the Cleveland Art Museum was constructed in 1913. The Olmsted Brothers were immediately contacted to design the grounds of the park around the cultural institution, however plans were not implemented until 1925. Their plan emphasized the symmetrical value of the site, and oriented garden decoration along a central axis. To compliment the neoclassical building, the firm placed an imposing fountain on the central south lawn. Architectural elements of the garden included a “terrace pavement, walls, balustrades and steps at the north end… marble curb, foundations, and excavations…[and] A pool in the center of the upper panel.” [Olmsted Brothers to F.S.
