About Denver Parks
Developed over a 60-year period, the Olmsted Brothers contributed to the design of Denver Parks from 1910-1920. While a master plan by Charles Mulford Robinson and George Kessler had already been prepared for the city of Denver, inclusive of landscapes, the Olmsted Brothers, under the direction of Frederick law Olmsted Jr. helped to implement the scheme and improve the system. In addition to design suggestions, they proposed a “Suggestive Diagram of Organization” to help the Board of Commissioners divide and manage the four thousand acres of green space. The planning for Denver Park Commission involved both the parks within the city limits as well as the extensive Mountain Parks system in the foothills and Front Range to the west of Denver (see job 05582).
