About Hiawatha Playfield

Alternate name(s): West Seattle Playground, Hiawatha Park

Hiawatha Playfield was one of the first developed playfields with a fieldhouse in Seattle. The recreation movement was just beginning in the country at the time. The fieldhouse structure conceived by the Olmsted firm can still be seen under the later remodels. The overall park retains much of its Olmsted character despite the periodic upgrading of the recreation facilties over the past century.
