The Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) Green Star Awards® exist to celebrate the work of professionals committed to stewardship, innovation, and excellence in landscape management. Since 2022, the Olmsted Network has been proud to partner with PGMS to elevate this important recognition.

A key component of this collaboration is the Olmsted Award, presented to a property that demonstrates a deep commitment to Olmsted management principles. These principles emphasize thoughtful design intent, long-term stewardship, and the preservation of landscapes as dynamic, living systems.

For those managing landscapes influenced by the legacy of Frederick Law Olmsted, the awards offer a meaningful opportunity to showcase work that carries forward a historic vision while meeting contemporary challenges. The Olmsted Award recognizes properties where Olmsted principles are integrated and practiced throughout the design and management operations. Past winners include the Biltmore Estate and Denison University, with honorable mentions going to Duke University, Architect of the Capitol, and State of Washington Capitol Campus.

As landscapes face increasing pressures—from climate change to evolving public use—the importance of skilled, intentional management has never been greater. Programs like the Green Star Awards not only recognize achievement but also help set benchmarks for the industry, encouraging continuous improvement and innovation.

“Each year, the Green Star Awards highlight the extraordinary work being done to care for and sustain our nation’s landscapes,” said PGMS President Michael Gildea. “Through our partnership with the Olmsted Network, we are especially proud to honor those who uphold the enduring principles of stewardship, design integrity, and public value that define Olmsted’s legacy.”

Recipients will be celebrated at the PGMS Annual Conference: Transform, held in conjunction with ELEVATE in Tampa, Florida from November 8–11, 2026. This event brings together leaders in grounds management, offering a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, explore emerging trends, and celebrate excellence within the field.

Applications for the 2026 Green Star Awards are now open, with a deadline of June 30. If your organization is committed to excellence in grounds management—and especially if your site reflects Olmsted-inspired principles—this is your moment to step forward.
