Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site (Fairsted) in Brookline, MA, has announced that Gabby Hornbeck de Bakker will serve as the site’s new Supervisory Park Ranger starting April 19, 2026.

Having begun her career with the National Park Service as an intern in 2011, Gabby has gone on to serve at eight national park sites and a branch of the National Archives. For nearly four years, she worked as the Lead Park Ranger at John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site—one of Fairsted’s sister sites—and has served in two temporary promotions as the Supervisory Park Ranger at Fairsted.

Olmsted came to Fairsted in 1883, moving his family from the hustle and bustle of New York City to be closer to his friend Henry Hobson Richardson and important Boston-area work. The site served as the Olmsted firms’ office for the better part of a century, and was acquired by the National Park Service in 1979. Today, Olmsted National Historic Site is home to the Olmsted Archives—containing over 1,000,000 historic documents—and is open to the public for exploration and ranger-led tours.

From leading guided tours at Civil War battlefields and roving natural spaces in the California desert, to facilitating education programs about multiple presidential families, Gabby is excited to continue sharing her passion for history, mentorship, public lands, and the National Park Service, and the Olmsted Network looks forward to working with her.
