About Samford University

Alternate name(s): Howard College[ORGO]

In 1947 the Olmsted Brothers created a preliminary site plan for Samford University in Birmingham, AL (09824-18-pt2). Originally known as Howard College, the firm selected the new site for the institution, deciding on 40 acres near Edgewood Lake. The plan included several athletic fields, administration buildings, a chapel, and featured winding tree-lined pathways throughout the grounds.
