About Young, Mr. Otto
The grounds of Otto Young’s summer estate were improved by the Olmsted Brothers in 1900. J.C. Olmsted visited the 20-acre property and proposed changes to the street walls, entrance, front approach drive, back road, and service yard. Pertaining to the properties flower garden, his report suggested “to use a comparatively small amount of flowers or bedding plants on the terrace and these grouped and placed in narrow, continuous beds close against the walls of the house or else in one, two or three large decorative beds symmetrically arranged with reference to the house.” [Visit by J.C.
