On June 22, 2023, Congress dedicated a Kentucky coffeetree in honor of Frederick Law Olmsted, the first landscape architect of the U.S. Capitol. The event was spearheaded by Rep. French Hill (R-AR) and Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), who introduced H.Res.1013 in 2022 during the “Olmsted 200: Parks for All People” bicentennial celebration, and the Architect of the Capitol.

Representatives of the Olmsted Network, American Society of Landscape Architects, The Garden Club of America and American University were in attendance— and so was the Olmsted Network’s Big Head Fred! The 7-foot-tall caricature of Olmsted was born from the combined talents of illustrator David Lee Csicsko and puppet-maker Randy Carfagno for Olmsted 200 and now visits Olmsted landscapes across the country.

The ceremony is available on YouTube here, and photos from the event are available on Flickr here.
