Explore the newly-restored Muddy River, the central waterway of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace! The Muddy is so much more than a pretty stream: it is an intricate water management system for over a dozen neighborhoods that stands as America’s oldest example of green infrastructure. The Emerald Necklace Conservancy’s Field Operations Manager will guide visitors on a walk through the design history of the river and the parkland around it, highlighting elements of Olmsted’s original landscape design and discussing the recently-completed Muddy River Restoration Project— conducted with the US Army Corps of Engineers— which has brought the river back to its full potential for the first time in decades.
Note: in the event of inclement weather, this event will be postponed to Sunday, May 5.
