After asking Dawson to consult on his tracts in The Highlands, Lewis wrote that he was discarding the landscape plan under which he had started his development and was anxious to have a general plan and planting plan from the Olmsted Brothers to guide him in the future. He was under budget limitations, so only wanted to the Olmsted firm consultations as he could undertake the work.
