The Olmsted design for David Moss differed from many in The Highlands because of the site’s interior location near the golf course. “As there are no views outward .…the attractiveness of the property must be developed within its own borders. Broad lawn is always a feature of much charm and quiet restfulness….” The house was centered on the lot and carefully oriented so that “by grading and planting…a picturesque and unusual effect can be obtained.” Set “in the midst of woods” they suggested an “English cottage type of house” and architectural modifications to better integrate the house with its site.
