For this early residential landscape in The Highlands, Olmsted Brothers prepared grading, preliminary and planting plans, and construction drawings for masonry walls, walks, fences and arbor. The design featured a trellised walk from the house’s “piazza” to a formal flower garden with parterres, a pool, a flowering tree allee and arbor. Also included were a circular drive and linked lawns fringed with copious shrub plantings, a huge vegetable garden and greenhouses. A decade later, Olmsted Brothers drew a blue-themed planting plan for sunken beds around the garden pool for new owner Mrs. A. Scott Bullitt.
