Austin Allen documents cultural landscapes in thoughtful and creative ways. Recent work includes Site of the Unseen: The Racial Gaming of American Landscapes, in Black Landscapes Matter, edited by Walter Hood and Grace Mitchell Tada, and the documentary, Claiming Open Spaces. Allen is Interim Associate Dean for the College of Architecture Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Texas Arlington, and holds a PhD and MA, CPB Fellow, from Ohio University as well as a BA in Landscape Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and an AA in Urban Studies from Laney Community College, Oakland. Allen received the UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design Distinguished Alumnus Award in March 2017. He is a principal in the landscape architecture firm, Design Jones LLC. He also served on the Olmsted 200 Honorary Committee.

Adrian Benepe, President and CEO of Brooklyn Botanic Garden (an Olmsted Brothers landscape), is one of the nation’s foremost experts in parks and open green spaces. As senior VP and director of national programs at the Trust for Public Land, Benepe led efforts to ensure that every city resident has a high-quality park within a 10-minute walk of home. He worked for NYC Parks & Recreation for 27 years, including 11 years as Commissioner, and served in senior roles at the Municipal Art Society and the New York Botanical Garden. Adrian was the recipient of the 2022 Olmsted Network President’s Award and a member of the Olmsted 200 Honorary Committee.

Eugénie L. Birch FAICP, FAcSS, RTPI (hon), is the Nussdorf Professor of Urban Research, Department of City and Regional Planning, and Graduate Dean, Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania. She is the founding co-director of the Penn Institute for Urban Research, dedicated to integrative research and instruction in sustainable urban development. She is co-editor, University of Pennsylvania Press’s City in the 21st Century series and co-editor, SSRN Urban Research e-journal. She is currently engaged in two long-term research initiatives within Penn IUR focusing on city climate-resilient infrastructure finance and urban informality, and a third with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), defining and financing urban nature-based solutions.

Birch, who is a member of the SDSN Leadership Council and member of the Board of Directors, Regional Plan Association, holds a PhD and Masters degree in Urban Planning from Columbia University. She is a former board member of the National Association for Olmsted Parks and served on the Olmsted 200 Honorary Committee.

Stephen Gill has a special lineage— he is the great grandson of Frederick Law Olmsted and grandson of Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. He grew up in California with his grandparents and went on to become a physicist and mathematician. Gill earned a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MA and PhD from Harvard University. He was founder and president and chief scientist of Artec Associates and Votan Corp. Gill is also chairman of The Stephen and Margaret Gill Family Foundation, and he served as a member of the Olmsted 200 Honorary Committee.

Betsy Shure Gross has long been inspired by the Olmsted legacy. Her parents were betrothed in Beardsley Park in Bridgeport, CT, and she spent her childhood there and in Edgewood Park in New Haven. When she and her family moved to Brookline, MA, she lived only a few blocks from the Emerald Necklace's Muddy River and Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site.

Shure Gross is a founder of the National Association for Olmsted Parks and the second National Co-Chair with Dr. Charles McLaughlin, then Editor-in-Chief of the Olmsted Papers Project. She is a founder of The Massachusetts Association for Olmsted Parks (now merged with Preservation MA), the Friends of Fairsted, the Commonwealth’s Olmsted Historic Landscape Preservation Program, the Emerald Necklace Conservancy and the Emerald Necklace Muddy River Maintenance and Management Oversight Committee. She is the “mother” of the Massachusetts Community Preservation Act and a founder of Massachusetts Conservation Voters and the newly-established organization MASS PARKS FOR ALL.

Shure Gross has had a long career in conservation and historic landscape preservation issues, working to ensure long-term preservation of Olmsted-designed and other historic parks and open spaces. Her goal has always been to rebuild trust in the public realm; establish new models of stewardship; engage friends groups, institutions and the corporate sector as long-term partners; and pursue new sources of revenue for public assets.

Lucy Lawliss is a historical landscape architect and consultant specializing in historic landscapes and the work of the Olmsted firm. She worked in the private sector from 1979 to 1991 when she joined the National Park Service as the first historical landscape architect for the Southeast Region. Lawliss finished her NPS career in 2016 as superintendent of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. She is a co-editor of the award-winning publication, The Master List of Design Projects of the Olmsted Firm 1857–1979,  and author of the Southern Garden History Society's first Magnolia Essay: Residential Work of the Olmsted Firm in Georgia, 1893–1937 (1992).  With Liz Sargent, HLA, she is a co-author for Olmsted in Connecticut (2022) and is currently working on a cultural landscape report for Forest Hills Gardens, Olmsted Jr.'s great Arts and Crafts community in Queens, NY. Lawliss obtained her BA, MLA and a master's certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Georgia. She was the 2022 recipient of The Caroline Loughlin Volunteer Service Award and previously served as Chair of the Board of the National Association for Olmsted Parks.

Philip Loughlin is Professor Emeritus at Maryville University in St. Louis, where he taught courses in economics and finance. Prior to joining the Maryville faculty, he was an officer in the U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps and an officer and director of the former Curlee Clothing Company of St. Louis. Loughlin served as a member of the board of directors of the East-West Center Foundation in Honolulu and worked to organize and fund field trips to East Asia for American college and high school faculty. A former trustee of Phillips Exeter Academy, Loughlin has a BA in economics, an MBA from Cornell University and a PhD in Business Administration from Saint Louis University. He holds an honorary degree from the University of Missouri—St. Louis. Loughlin served as a member of the Olmsted 200 Honorary Committee.

Diana “Dini” Cecil Pickering represents the fourth generation of the Vanderbilt family at Biltmore. She is currently Chair of Biltmore’s Board of Directors, a position she assumed in 2017, and is President of their Family Office. She is the daughter of William Amherst Vanderbilt Cecil and sister to Biltmore’s CEO & President William “Bill” Amherst Vanderbilt Cecil Jr. She previously served as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors between the years of 1995-2017 and was a member of the Olmsted 200 Honorary Committee.

Ann Satterthwaite’s professional and community activities have been focused on ways to make cities, towns and the countryside livable and functional through historic preservation, conservation of natural and cultural landscapes, tourism, recreation, heritage development and environmental planning. She has served as an environmental planning consultant and planning advocate, active in both local and national professional organizations dedicated to better planning. She is also a lecturer and writer. Satterthwaite received a BA, cum laude, from Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA, and an MA in city planning from Yale University in New Haven, CT.

Sara Zewde is founding principal of Studio Zewde, a design firm practicing landscape architecture, urbanism and public art. She is currently Assistant Professor in Practice of Landscape Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Zewde received her MLA from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, a Master of City Planning Degree from MIT and BA in sociology and statistics from Boston University. She was named the National Olmsted Scholar in 2014 by the Landscape Architecture Foundation. She was also named to the inaugural “40 Under 40: People Saving Places” list by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2018. Zewde served as a member of the Olmsted 200 Honorary Committee.
