Did you know that only 0.5% of the New York City budget is allocated to parks despite the fact that parks comprise 14% of city land? In the latest city budget proposal, NYC Parks faces a 5% cut, while other city agencies have seen budget cuts restored. This represents a loss of $55 million in critical funding, the elimination of more than 600 positions, and the end of the tremendously successful second-shift program that provides evening trash maintenance.
Join Prospect Park Alliance and the Play Fair for Parks Coalition to advocate for the restoration of budget cuts to our city’s beloved green spaces, including Prospect Park. Celebrate parks and parks workers, enjoy raffles, games, music and more, while advocating for essential funding for Brooklyn’s Backyard and the parks throughout our city that New Yorkers rely on daily for their health and well-being.
